French Closet Doors Liven Up All Rooms
There are several different styles of French closet doors available for a homeowner to purchase and place in their bedrooms or other rooms in order to bring more elegance and style to the area. These closet coverings could be in the style of a tri-fold, sliding or double hung swinging doors. They are elegant and more modern than most of the doors people use to close off their closets. In addition, when a mirror is placed in the opening, instead of a glass lites or panels, then the door becomes a place to get ready for the day as well as keep clothes safe and hidden.
These doors first appeared in France around the end of the Renaissance era when architecture and art were the highlight of everything. These doors were a great compromise from the single pane of glass that was not able to allow for much privacy to a homeowner. The small, windows allow for more privacy and more light to travel in from the outside, even when the door is place in the interior of a home.
Some people prefer the glass lites which are either long panes of glass that could be frosted or clear; or they are smaller pieces of glass 'windows'. These smaller pieces of glass windows break up the door and allow for maximum light to filter in. In order to make some of these doors more elegant, manufacturers have placed decorative wrought iron strips in various configurations across the glass. These are typically used for security doors but a homeowner could use them to cover a door for a closet and add a bit more touch of class.
A homeowner could install these types of doors for the closet themselves or hire a contractor to do it for them. If they are going to do it themselves, it is very important to get the measurements exactly before placing an order for the doors or purchasing them and bringing them home. These types of doors would look perfect hanging in a small girl's room or a teenage girl's room with lots of lace and pink or purple colors. They are also versatile in that they could be hung in a master bedroom that is shared by a man and woman with out being too feminine. Larger, walk-in closets may require a special order of this type of door covering, but they are so beautiful and bring something to every room they are hung in that it's worth the little extra.
A modern style living room would benefit from French closet doors near the entry way. The decor does not have to be art deco or modern. These doors could have a frosted or clear, glass panel in the center and could be dressed up with a nice sheer curtain to give the room the illusion of being larger with a sliding glass, walk-out door instead of the closet.
